Returning Teachers

Teachers that have participated in TIES and choose to return for a subsequent year form a valuable and important resource for the program. There are two positions open to TIES alumni - the Returning Teacher position and the Curriculum Developer position.

Returning Teachers will participate alongside the 12 new teachers for the entire 3-week session in July 2008 (June 27 and July 7 - 25, not including weekends). The payment for this position is $1900.  Returning teachers have three main roles:

  1. To carry out their own scientific inquiry – such as the Activity Monitoring Project, and design a research study that can be implemented in a middle school classroom
  2. To develop their own classroom activities to a publishable standard
  3. To support the first year teachers by leading a daily morning debrief

The Curriculum Developer position is less structured and is not necessarily tied to the July session at OHSU. These individuals will assist OHSU in creating a bank of TIES-related curricula for use with the Rural TIES Teachers in the summers of 2009 and 2010.

Further questions about returning teacher stipends, length of participation, and content of the returning teacher experience should be addressed to scied@ohsu.edu.
